Taught in the school of social work at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Barbara recently received the Women’s Spirit Award from the Women's Fund and the UNO Alumni Award for Excellence in Public Service in 2008. Weitz is currently serving on the Urban League of Nebraska and Nebraska Children and Families Foundation boards. Both she and her husband Wally are active in social justice and education institutions.
