Bright Futures Foundation/Avenue Scholars
The Bright Futures Foundation was organized in January 2008 with a pledge to support students of talent and financial need through higher education and into the workforce. In January 2009, the Avenue Scholars program began serving students in a partnership with Urban League of Omaha to secure college admission and financial aid for graduating high school seniors.

Nebraska Career Connections provides educational and career planning resources that bring together Nebraskans – students, parents, educators, and employers. Building Bright Futures is partnering with Nebraska Career Connections to serve more youth through community partners.

This article addresses the issue of workforce readiness in Nebraska. In Nebraska, five of the expected highest growth career fields will be education, management, computer specialties, health care, and community services. Nebraska’s labor force and economy are strengthened when the state’s high school graduates are prepared for college and interested in pursuing jobs.

In this article, 25 ideas were produced by Roosevelt students from across the nation, all of which present a unique or innovative way to solve some of the fundamental problems that plague our education system. These ideas represent the potential of student ideas to affect change and make a difference with solid solutions that strike at the core of each problem. Students from all over came together to develop new policy solutions that address how to increase socioeconomic diversity in higher education.
